In my humble opinion:

Employees should not be encouraged to continue their education during the school year if it means they are using preparation time to do their homework instead of preparing for class.

  1. This is an excellent point. I had a conversation with an excellent teacher here who voiced the same opinion. Why does our system reward a teacher who heads out right after school once a week to go to BSU to take a three hour night class (speaking from experience here) instead of rewarding the teacher who stays after school until five meeting with students and preparing for the next day?

Also, why does our system reward those (administrators) who move further away from the classroom than those who choose to stay (teachers, of course)? It's like saying to a great surgeon - get out of the operating room and go sit behind this desk or lecture to this group of students and we'll pay you more. I don't get it.

That is not meant as a slam against our staff - just a slam against how the system is set up.
